Types of Suffering

•Chance (Eccl. 9:11-12; Lu. 13:1-5; Jn. 9:1-3)

•Disciplinary (Heb. 12:1-11)

•Obedience (1 Pet. 2:21)

Man's Thinking-Suffering makes the God of the Bible an impossibility.

•Reasoning: Given the reality of suffering, evil and pain in the world: If God is Good (i.e. wants to prevent suffering), then God cannot be (an all-powerful) God. If God is (truly an all-powerful) God, then God must not be Good.

•Responses

•Necessity of Free Will

•Unknown Purpose

•Suffering/Pain = Evil?

•Doubt as Evidence

But if God really cares, why does he allow me to suffer?

•Cross: We are Not Alone in our Suffering

•Resurrection: Wrongs Restored, Word Fulfilled

•Throne: Glory is the End of Suffering
